Originating in the 19th century, rummy is a widely played card game. After spreading to Europe and the United States, it is thought to have originated from the Chinese game Mahjongsavera king satta. Given the lively nature of the game, it's possible that the term "rummy" originated from the colloquial word "rumbullion," which means "a great tumult or uproar.". Rummy has changed over time, giving rise to several versions played all over the world. Especially in the United States, the game saw tremendous growth in popularity in the early 20th century.
