Around 1680, Edward Teach—better known by his stage name, Blackbeard—was born in Bristol, England. He started his maritime careerearn money rummy as a sailor traveling the Atlantic and Caribbean on merchant ships. He learned and gained experience in seafaring during this time. Teach eventually turned to piracy, turning into one of the most infamous piratical figures of the early eighteenth century.
